Theme: God’s Marching Orders

We’re entering the home stretch, and the theme for our last five weeks is “God’s Marching Orders.” The message of our first verse in this series, 1 Corinthians 6:20, is pretty straight forward — we’re to honor God with our bodies.

Let’s look at the verse in context:
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV)

Here Paul reminds us that, as Christians, the Holy Spirit dwells within us — that our bodies are literally “temples of the Holy Spirit.” Just think about how amazing the temple was during Biblical times. It was a magnificent and sacred place. It was a place reserved for only the absolute best. It was a place where God actually dwelt among His people. Temples were built to honor God.

In the same way our bodies, as temples of the Holy Spirit, are built to honor God.  Therefore, everything we do, everything we say, everything we eat, everything we drink, every place we go, … literally everything we do with our bodies…it should all honor our Lord.
