Declare and Believe – Romans 10:9 (Week 13)

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. – Romans 10:9 (NIV)

Theme: God’s Plan for Salvation

Eternal life. That’s the “gift of God” that’s been offered to us all (see last week’s post on Romans 6:23). This week’s verse, Romans 10:9, tells us how to accept that gift. Simply profess that Jesus is Lord, and truly believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead (in victory over death), and you will be saved. God made it that easy for us to spend eternity in Heaven with Him.

And just to carry the historical aspect with regard to our nation one step further, the resolution adopted by Congress actually urged President Washington to declare “a national day of thanksgiving and prayer” (emphasis supplied), but in today’s times we seem to forget that second part. In fact, the very first line of President Washington’s proclamation establishing our nation’s first Thanksgiving states “Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor...” The full text of the proclamation is available at: https://founders.archives.gov/documents/Washington/05-04-02-0091 Our Founding Fathers recognized and gave thanks to God above all first and foremost, and we would be well-served to do the same!
