The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. – Psalm 19:1 (NIV)
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. – Psalm 19:1 (KJV)
Theme: Our Awesome God
If you’ve ever had the chance to admire the night sky on a really dark night, away from city lights, then you’ve caught a glimpse of how awesome our God really is. Millions of stars and galaxies…some of them billions of light years away…and all created by the same God that loves each one of us.
Awesome.
But even the word “awesome” doesn’t seem to do justice to the magnitude of God’s creation. To provide some perspective, one of the closest galaxies to Earth (named Andromeda) is roughly 2.5 million light years away. That’s approximately 15,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles away (about 15 quintillion miles). Think about that. Even if we could travel at the speed of light, it would take us two and a half million years to get there. And again, Andromeda one of the closest galaxies. That’s how massive our universe is…and our God spoke it into existence.
Psalms 19:1 reminds us that every star in the sky puts God’s glory on display and proclaims the magnificence of His creation. We have a truly awesome God.
