Our challenge verses for the last couple of weeks warned us not to be prideful, but here Paul shares something we, as Christians, should brag about: our Lord. When Paul says “as it is written” at the beginning of this verse he’s referencing Jeremiah 9:23-24, so let’s take a look:
This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD. – Jeremiah 9:23-24 (NIV)
In the build up to 1 Corinthians 1:31, Paul also reminds us that the “foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength” (verse 25) and “It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus” (verse 30). Finally something to brag about!
