We find it easiest to memorize this verse and last week’s verse (2 Timothy 3:16) together. Last week 2 Timothy 3:16 taught us that the Bible we read and study is inspired by God Himself, and that we should use His Scriptures to teach one another about God, to condemn what is wrong (sin), to correct each other and to train ourselves to do what’s right in God’s eyes. Why should we do this? 2 Timothy 3:17 tells us: so that we can be “thoroughly equipped” for every good work. Just like a soldier makes sure he’s properly equipped—helmet, armor, weapons, radios—before he goes into battle, we need to equip ourselves with God’s Word so that we’re ready to do good works for God’s glory.
