Theme: Godly Families
God, the Creator of all things, designed the family. And His Word outlines the basic responsibilities for Godly parents and children. Parents are expected to teach, protect, discipline and provide for their children while raising them to honor our Heavenly Father. In return, children are commanded to “Honor your father and your mother…” (see the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20). Part of honoring our parents includes obedience.
Our verse for this week, Ephesians 6:1, makes it clear that God expects children to obey the Godly instructions of their parents. Verses 2 and 3 then remind us why–because He wants what’s best for us. Let’s close with verses 1-3 together….
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” – Ephesians 6:1-3 (NIV)
