Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. – Ephesians 6:10 (NIV)
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. – Ephesians 6:10 (KJV)
Theme: God’s Marching Orders
In the last section of his letter to God’s people in Ephesus, Paul encouraged the Ephesians to “be strong in the Lord” and put on the “full armor of god” (Ephesians 6:10-11). Throughout the letter Paul gave instructions on how to walk faithfully with Christ as individuals, as families, and as a church body. But he knew that walk would not be easy — that non-believers and Satan himself would plot against them — so he closed his message by urging the Ephesians to prepare for spiritual battle and rely on God’s mighty power.
We need that same message more than ever today.
Like the Ephesians, we must also prepare for spiritual battle as we go about our daily lives. Despite the tremendous blessings of living in a free society, a faithful walk with Christ is not easy in today’s world. Today, just as it was when Paul wrote to the believers in Ephesus, there are enemies of God who challenge the teachings of Christ and plot against those who follow Him. The good news is this: for the last 50 weeks we’ve been sharpening the primary weapon we need to be victorious in that spiritual battle. That weapon is the Sword of the Spirit, God’s Word, and we have “hidden [it] in our hearts.”
