With All Your Heart – Colossians 3:23 (Week 22)

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, – Colossians 3:23 (NIV)

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; – Colossians 3:23 (KJV)

Theme:  Living According to God’s Word

This week we start a new theme — Living According to God’s Word — and Colossians 3:23 is the perfect place to start. This is the verse that inspired the name of our website, Life323, so this week’s post is taken from our “about Life323” link…

It’s easy to put our best effort into something we love. I’ve always loved sports, and it never took much prodding from my coaches to get me to play as hard as I could. My Language Arts teachers, on the other hand, had their work cut out for them. Despite heroic efforts to motivate me, I’m afraid I often didn’t put 100 percent into my writing assignments. But that’s not how it’s supposed to be.

In Colossians 3:23 God tells us: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,” (NIV). Notice that He doesn’t say, “do your best when it’s something you want to do.”  He doesn’t tell us to “give it 100 percent when it’s something you like.” He doesn’t say “give it your all when it’s easy or when it will make you look good.”  Nope.  He simply tells us to work with all of our heart at whatever we do…ALWAYS!  At our jobs….at our schools…at our church…in our community…everywhere…everything…always…as if we are doing it for God himself.

That’s why we selected “Life323.com” as our web domain.  It serves as a reminder that we should live our lives according to Colossians 3:23. Always putting our best into everything we do. No matter how small or how large the task.  No matter how much we want, or don’t want, to do it. No matter how hard or how easy it may be. God expects us to work as if we’re working directly for Him. That’s life according to 3:23…
