This week’s theme: Godly Families
Wives and mothers are one of God’s special gifts to the family. And Godly wives of noble character…well, Proverbs 31 essentially says that they’re priceless.
This past week my wife and I celebrated our 20th anniversary, and next month my parents will celebrate they’re 50th anniversary. When I look back at all of the crucial roles my mother and my wife have played in our family over the years, I can’t help but agree with the author of Proverbs 31–their value is beyond measure. Wife, Mom, provider, encourager, teacher, tutor, fill-in nurse/doctor, chauffeur, team mom, household manager, social coordinator, disciplinarian, confidant, move coordinator, fashion consultant,…and the list goes on. But even more important than all of those day-to-day blessings described above, a “wife of noble character” plays an absolutely pivotal role in establishing the foundation that a Godly family is built upon. Last week’s verse, Proverbs 22:6, stressed the importance of starting our children “off on the way they should go.” That’s a much easier task with a Godly wife and mother serving as an example, building a firm moral foundation, and pointing our children in the right direction.
And such a virtuous woman is worthy of our honor and praise…
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
