Have you ever thought something was hopeless? When I look at some of the things happening in our world today I sometimes catch myself thinking that way. Whether it’s a friend or family member who’s lost in sin, health concerns, money problems, or our Nation’s growing acceptance of immoral values (and rejection of God’s laws), it’s easy to get discouraged and think the situation is impossible. That’s why we need Luke 18:27 handy…to remind us that the same awesome and powerful God who put the very stars in the sky, who created the highest mountains and who filled the deepest oceans is still in control…and He can do anything. The situation may seem hopeless to us, but nothing is impossible with our God.

And just to carry the historical aspect with regard to our nation one step further, the resolution adopted by Congress actually urged President Washington to declare “a national day of thanksgiving and prayer” (emphasis supplied), but in today’s times we seem to forget that second part. In fact, the very first line of President Washington’s proclamation establishing our nation’s first Thanksgiving states “Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor...” The full text of the proclamation is available at: https://founders.archives.gov/documents/Washington/05-04-02-0091 Our Founding Fathers recognized and gave thanks to God above all first and foremost, and we would be well-served to do the same!
