Theme: God’s Marching Orders
In the last section of his letter to God’s people in Ephesus, Paul encouraged the Ephesians to “be strong in the Lord” and put on the “full armor of god” (Ephesians 6:10-11). Throughout the letter Paul had given instructions on how to walk faithfully with Christ as individuals, as families, and as a church body. But he knew that walk would not be easy—that non-believers and Satan himself would plot against them—so he closed his message by urging the Ephesians to prepare for spiritual battle and rely on God’s mighty power.
Like the Ephesians, we also need to prepare for spiritual battle as we go about our daily lives. Despite the tremendous blessings of living in a free society, a faithful walk with Christ will not be easy in today’s world. Just like it was long ago when Paul wrote to the believers in Ephesus, today there are enemies of God who challenge the teachings of Christ and plot against those who follow Him. The good news is this: for the last 52 weeks we’ve been sharpening the primary weapon we need to be victorious in that spiritual battle. That weapon is the Sword of the Spirit–God’s Word–and we have “hidden [it] in our hearts.”
So, let’s close out our 52 Week Challenge with Ephesians 6:10:
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.
