A Light Unto My Path – Psalm 119:105 (Week 2)

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. – Psalm 119:105 (NIV)

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. – Psalm 119:105 (KJV)

Theme: God’s Word and Why We Study It

Have you ever walked along a dark trail at night without a flashlight? Or tried to navigate around a large room or building in pitch black with all of the lights out? If you have, you know it’s easy to stumble over objects in our path or get lost and end up going in the wrong direction. But simply bring a flashlight and it’s a whole different situation. The light makes it easy to avoid obstacles and make sure we’re on the right path. The light changes everything.

That’s true of our lives as well. Trying to walk through life without God’s Word is like wandering in the darkness without a flashlight. We’re likely to stumble. We’re likely to go down the wrong path. And we’re lost.

The good news, however, is that God has provided the light to guide us from day to day. As our verse for this week tells us, His scriptures are “a lamp for [our] feet, a light on [our] path.” That doesn’t mean we’ll never stumble or make a wrong turn — we’re all sinners in need of a Savior — but it does mean that we’ll always have His light to guide us, to help us get back up when we stumble, and to point us in the right direction when we’re lost. And His light changes everything.
